The most important miel of the day*

If I was a food blogger, I would have already told you about the wonderful chiles en nogada covered with pomegranate seeds and a cream sauce (picture a red, green and white meal suited for the bicentenario) I had the other day, or last night's seven amazing little tacos at Tacos Don Felix, each one different from the rest. I have friends who are much better at food blogging than I am, so I'll leave it alone, for the most part.

Except for today. This I had to share.

Went to Posada Corazon in the heart of San Miguel de Allende for breakfast. It's an amazing B&B with expansive gardens (unusual in the central part of the city) where they prepare meals made with produce grown on site. Locavores, take note. The grounds are shaded by huge trees, which attract lots of birds, which keep the cats' tails twitching. I got the huevo enojados ("angry egg") which comes wrapped in a flavorful green leaf (I don't know what kind) and is served with chilaquiles. Along with breakfast comes a basket of sliced bread, some butter and little bowls of honey and jam.

We were eating outside, and it wasn't long before a honeybee found the jam, took a taste and flew immediately back to its hive to tell the rest of the colony what it had found. And it wasn't long after that before two bees came back and started to groove on the jam. Then three. Then a half dozen. Eventually about 15 bees were flying about our heads or chowing down on the jam. Then one landed in the honey. And another, and another. As good as I think the food is here, I can say the local bees love it too. Click the photos to see them larger.
I'm a little confused by how much the bees went after the honey. Honey is bee vomit, right? Just checking.

Not a great closeup. A reminder that I need to find some cheap extension tubes when I get home, so I can do better detail photos. Next time I'm at breakfast and a small army of bees launches an attack on the condiments, I want to be (bee?) ready.

*"Miel" means "honey" en Español.
