I wish I knew

Another big celebration tonight in the Centro. This one had a kind of religious flavor - and I mean both Catholicism and Aztec religions. I'll try to find out what tonight's festivities were all about and update this post, but in the meantime there was a lot of dancing and .... mostly dancing. And people waiting to dance. I was talking with friend and former U-T photographer Jerry Rife today and he mentioned that he always liked shooting the offstage or backstage activities at an event. Let the audience see what's on stage, he's intrigued by the goings-on where the stage lights start to fall off into shadow. I'm so right there with you, Jerry. So here's some stuff that went on while the audience was watching what was on stage.
Enrique, one of the Apaches from Valle del Maiz.

Warming up by the Parroquia before heading out through the gate and into the crowd.

Waiting to go on.

The stage backed up to the wall of a building, but there was about five feet between the wall and the stage. I saw this guy in the space in between, watching the dancers, with the spotlight casting their shadows around him.

Love the view from the shadows Dave. My mantra to my photoJ students back in the day was: give the readers a visual treat. Something they wouldn't have seen on their own, backstage, before/after the show. Thanks for the fat free treat!

Thanks for the kind comment! I've never thought of my photos as "fat free treats" before, but I like that. And I agree with what you taught your pj students about giving them something different.
