Judge not lest ye be asked to

Last weekend I was one of the 29 judges for this year's San Diego County Fair photography exhibition. About a thousand photographers submitted some 4,000 photos to compete in 27 categories, from b/w scenics to digital composites and everything in between. Including a couple hundred dog, cat, parrot and camel photos in the "our best friend" class. I judged the photojournalism division along with Al Bruton. After we worked our way through the news, sports, feature and documentary images (and that was before lunch) we dove into the OTHER six crates of photos.

Our. Best. Friend.

Yep. Dogs and cats. Some of them wearing hats, sweaters, sunglasses. So many photos of pets in human clothes my eyes bled. But the funny thing is, it was a lot harder for Al and me to decide on the final four best images from that category than it was the journalistic photos. The best of that category were very good.

While I was there I shot some video of the judging. Here's the result.
