Webbing the surf

Mondays are hard when you have no job to go to. Yes, I know - "looking for a job is a full time job." I know, I know. What are you, my mother?

NOTE: You might be. My mother reads this blog. Hi, mom!

But it's good to have friends, and it's better to have good friends. They'll take the sting out of Mondays. Today I met a friend for coffee. She was on vacation when the axe came down, so we hadn't had a chance to catch up. After that, I went to the People's Republic of Ocean Beach and met former co-workers Lekili and her roommate Liz for lunch at Hodad's. Lekili has a serious burger Jones and she hadn't been to the O.B. landmark yet, so off we went. Like we need an excuse.

I'll let her burgerblog about the food. I'll just say the company was excellent. I miss those two.

Afterwards, I felt the need to walk around the beach because.... hello, unemployed. I have some free time. And as long as I'm not spending every day like this, drinking out of a paper bag, it's just harmless fun. Also, I brought my camera gear because I heard the waves were supposed to be good today.

Sure enough. The waves weren't great but the surfers were out.

You may notice an annoying watermark. Yeah, people have been swiping photos from my blog. I've decided to watermark my work so you good people can still see the images but the dirty, nasty thieves will be less likely to want them. I don't know if I'll do it for all my images going forward, but I'm definitely going to do it for photos that I want to protect.

I like the following series. A little bit of what happens sometimes out on the waves. Hey! Sharing is caring, guys!

The best part of funemployment is reminding myself that I have other skills, skills I haven't been using so much recently. So, yeah, going out and shooting just for my own head is a blast. I miss it. So I'm taking this opportunity to get reacquainted with my cameras.

Getting reacquainted with your camera is the best news i've heard all day (hey, i'm not, nor did i marry, Philip Rivers, so his contract is a moot point)! Using protection is always a good idea, for your camera, your photos and anything else that's that important.

(FYI in that similar mindset, my dentist has a poster in his office that says, "You don't have to floss all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep.")

But what i want to write most right now to you is i seriously lost track of how many great "new" words and phrases you used here... starting with "Webbing the surf" and culminating with "funemployment" but what made me laugh the hardest was "What are you, my mother?" followed by "And as long as I'm not spending every day like this, drinking out of a paper bag, it's just harmless fun."

Wow, do i miss you...

i'm so glad you had a great time in my old stomping grounds. O.B. is good for the soul.

KP, thanks so much. Miss you too. And all those new words I come up with, they're just a side effect. Of drinking out of a paper bag all day.

Dear Anonymous: Hah! You fell for my little trap! I'm so clever.

Good stuff, David. How about telling folks how you do what you do imagewise?

Get some model releases and upload them to you-know-where. I miss you too, even though it's been 10 years (huh-wha?!?) since we worked together every day. I'm up for a ski trip this winter — whaddya say?

Dave is constantly amazing me...he comes up with insights most miss...and as a teen, he would go to a movie, come home and do in instant replay, line by line, for an hour if we could stand it...a cool guy.
The best photos, of me and catching fish were all taken by Dave...now, should this be on a blog?
Bob Poller, his dad and friend.
